Issue #4 Review

What Happened That You Have To Know About:

We get some of Sun Boy's backstory - his parents support his Legion membership, so, with typical adolescent contrariness, he's thinking of quitting - and then the Science Police raids. Turns out the Science Police has a mad-on for the Legion because Invisible Kid's dad is an SP muckety-muck. Everyone gets ticked off at Invisible Kid for not telling them beforehand, and his membership is up in the air until he pulls a neat trick on his father that lets the Legion off the hook and gives them a back door into the Science Police computers. We also hear some more about the trouble on the Rimworlds - "probings and incursions by... something. Something dark and vile." Then there's a little story introducing us to Karate Kid and Phantom Girl.

Review:

Barry Kitson gets the month off, and his replacements are competent but it's just not the same. The plot continues to build, and so does the foreshadowing. It's all well done, but we still haven't gotten anywhere yet. Should we have gotten somewhere yet? Oh well; issue #4; I guess not. The problem is that Waid is so good at his sleight of hand that, even though there is (probably) plot progress, we can't tell what it is yet. All we know is that we're getting to know the characters better, which is of course a good thing.
